At DIA we take a unique and intentional approach to education by blending elements of project-based learning, Montessori and Reggio Emilia inspiration in early years, mindfulness practices, and behavior-analytic strategies for skill development and classroom support. This combination allows us to nurture the academic, social, emotional, and practical life skills of our students.
In areas such as language learning, skill acquisition, and classroom routines, we apply behavior analysis tools to promote clarity, consistency, and meaningful progress. Our commitment to mindfulness helps students develop emotional regulation, empathy, and self-awareness, which we view as essential competencies for life. Through Project-Based Learning, students engage in real-world investigations, research, and hands-on experiences that give purpose to their learning and connect them to their community. Inspired by Montessori principles, our learning environments are thoughtfully prepared to promote independence, responsibility, and practical life skills.
This multifaceted approach reflects our belief that education should develop not only knowledge, but character, purpose, and a strong sense of belonging.
We prioritize small class groups to remain true to our commitment to individualized learning and meaningful student support. Because our community includes families who live here seasonally, class sizes may fluctuate during the year.
In Preschool and Elementary, each classroom is supported by a lead teacher and a classroom assistant, ensuring close guidance for younger learners. In Middle School and High School, students receive support through specialist teachersin areas such as Physical Education, Spanish, Art, Permaculture, and more, allowing for a well-rounded and engaging learning experience across all grade levels.
All of our students at Dominicus International Academy are enrolled through Highlands Prep in the United States, which serves as our official umbrella school. The transcripts and diplomas issued by Highlands Prep are internationally recognized, including by schools in the Dominican Republic. For families who need to present these documents to other institutions, a translation and apostille process may be required to ensure official validation and smooth academic transfer.
We do not! After careful research and parent consideration, we opted out of following this outdated tradition. We believe in freedom of expression and want students to feel comfortable and themselves at every moment of the day. We do require that student have one school shirt that will be used on field trips.
We boast a remarkable multidisciplinary team at our institution. While a bachelor’s degree serves as a minimum requirement for many of our teachers, we firmly believe that valuable experience and knowledge can be acquired through various avenues beyond the academic realm. To support continuous professional growth, we take pride in offering incentives for ongoing education, encouraging individuals to pursue additional degrees or certificates should they wish to further enhance their expertise.
Yes! There is plenty of data and research to support second language acquisition and we have contingencies in place to help our students succeed aiming to have a 50/50 split in the languages throughout the school.
At DIA, healthy lunch is included in our tuition, and meals are thoughtfully prepared to support both body and mind. Students who prefer to bring their own food are welcome to do so. We have a strict no candy or soda policy, and we actively discourage processed foods and junk food to promote healthy habits. A small cafeteria service is also available throughout the day, offering additional wholesome snack options.
The school day runs from 8:30 am to 2:45 pm, with extended care available from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm for families who need additional support.
We offer a variety of after-school clubs and activities, including Art, Ping Pong, Soccer, Ballet, Funky Dance, and Musical Theater, giving students opportunities to explore their interests, develop new skills, and connect with peers in a fun and enriching environment.
